Genius Answer for Your Smart Question

What Is A Chart Speed?

Posted on November 13, 2021 By sonalsart No Comments on What Is A Chart Speed?

What is a chart speed? The chart speed is simply the speed of which the image is passing by. The slower the chart speed, the sharper the image will be. The faster the speed, the larger and less detailed image you will get. You can adjust chart speed according to the depth you are graphing. The shallower I am, the faster my chart speed.

How fast can you go with Down Imaging?

Because down imaging samples in relatively thin slices, the systems are not practical to use at high speeds. Keeping speeds under 5 mph helps ensure the best possible target definition.

Can you run two fish finders at the same time?

Any time you run two units with the same frequency there is a risk of interference. However, with the modern noise rejection systems built into today's fish finders, in most conditions when there is a unit on the front and back of the boat with the same frequencies, they will not interfere with each other.

Can a transducer be too deep?

Because the transducer can only ping in water so you do want it submerged. If it's too deep sometimes the front face of it will create turbulence and bubbles = bad. Plus it can throw water up over your motor and inside your cowling resulting in saltwater intrusion.

What angle should my transducer be at?

The transducer should be mounted nose-up about three degrees in relation to the plane of the hull bottom. Sometimes a transducer mounted parallel with the hull bottom also works fine, but even the slightest nose-down angle can cause turbulence or cavitation that kills performance.

Where should I mount my transducer?

The general rule of thumb is to mount the transducer to the starboard side, which is the down stroke of most single outboard boat propellers (right hand lower unit). This side produces the least amount of turbulence and is most efficient in delivering the best performance.

Is SOG the same as mph?

What is speed over ground?

Speed Over the Ground (SOG) is the speed of the vessel relative to the surface of the earth. Speed Through Water (STW) is the speed of the vessel relative to the water. It is possible for the STW to be zero while the SOG is 5 knots, for example if the boat was drifting in a 5 knot current.
